I meant to post this in January as it would have been a forward thinking post, but now it is a look at the past and current post.
This year, like many others, I wanted to reduce buying yarn. I’ve seen many other crafters say the same thing. It could be to reduce costs, or to use up a huge stash that a lot of people have, or just to appreciate and have a closer look at what I already have.
I also took a good look at UFOs that were everywhere, and I made an inventory on a spread sheet to see really what I had to finish or frog. Some items were easy to decide on, and others are still unfinished.
And who doesn’t like to start something new?
It has gone pretty well, but I will confess to purchasing some more yarn, mostly to finish up WIP’s and also some yarn I purchased on holiday. Stitches Past Five, a vlogger I follow, does the same. The finished product reminds me of the holiday, as well as being a great finished object – in this case a triangle scarf which I hope to wear this winter.
I have completed many projects and it is satisfying to see the change in the spread sheet from all WIP’s to fewer WIPs and more Completed projects.
There are always going to be some projects that just can’t be decided about, but that is okay and they will be dealt with, or not, when the time is right. I know that there are many tricks one can do to get things finished up, like a random number pulled from a hat, and sometimes that works, but sometimes it doesn’t either!
Over consumption is something that everyone should take a look at, and crafters are no exception. Yes, it is great to be able to go to my stash and pull out something to start a project, but realistically, I probably wouldn’t have enough of a certain yarn to complete anything. It is also okay to say “nope” to something that is just not going to be finished, and the yarn can be re-used or donated.
It is a good idea to buy yarn with a specific project in mind, however tempting it may be to buy it because it looks or feels wonderful…
Crafting is supposed to be fun, not stressful! And the more things that are finished is a good feeling too. I must keep that in mind the next time I want to start on a new project.
